2008 SKMC 18-Hour Race Mandatory Gear List

 MANDATORY GEAR  that teams MUST carry at ALL times during the  SKMC  Race.

    One (1) cell phone per team and one (1) small first aid kit per team. The first aid kit must include at least an elastic bandage wrap and at least 4 bandages.  Also antiseptic in either a cream or liquid, 4 aspirin tablets and 4 pain reliever tablets such as ibuprofen, etc.

MANDATORY GEAR  for the 2008 SKMC 18-Hour Race Events

(This gear list is event specific.  You MUST have each of these items but you will not need to carry all of these items at all times during the race - e.g. canoe(s), paddle(s) and life jacket(s) MUST be used during the canoe sections of the race course but do not need to be carried during the bike sections, etc.)

1.    1 or 2  canoes per team, depending on team size. Canoe shall be paddled, no sails, motors, etc.

2.    Your paddles may be single blade or double.

3.    1 (one) life preserver or PFD per racer.  To be worn while paddling.

4.    1 (one) bike per racer. Any bike may be used however a mountain bike or similar is recommended . No tandems please.

5.    1 (one) bike helmet per racer. To be worn while on the bike.

6.    Bike lights on both front and rear of bike.  The front bike light may be a head lamp. I would like to see each team member have at least one head lamp each .

7.    Navigation gear; long pants are highly recommended, compass, and any type of eye wear to protect your eyes .  Woods have some very thick areas at some locations.

8.    1 waterproof map case and writing instrument .

9.    Bring a lock for bike and your canoe please.

10.    Magnifying glass for small map details.

11.    All teams need to bring at least ONE can of good insect spray with DEET.

12.  Each team should carry a watch so that you are aware of how  much time is left to complete the race

13.  No GPS units of any kind are allowed please.

14.  No wheels for your canoe , there will be one portage and canoe must be carried.

15. 25 feet of rope attached to the rear of your canoe or have it in your canoe just in case you need it.
