12-Hour Spring Race

Hello All......It was great having all of you at the spring SKMC!

I am recovering myself from directors hangover.  Wow ! What a race.   We are working on results right now and should have them up soon.  With plenty of pictures to follow in the next week, so come back to the site a few times to see all.

From the directors view , the race went pretty smooth.  I had plenty of great help and I want to thank all of you who pitched in.  This is much appreciated.  I want to thank, Kelcy, Jen, Tom and Brenda , Bob F.and Pat F.,  John D.,  Adam B., Erica B.,  Rosemary , Jed , Nick R.  and all others that I may have missed.   Great Job all of You!

I want to say a BIG Thank you to Joe Elliot and Cathy and Master Lock for all the great gifts.  Please remember their generosity when shopping for locks or car and truck products. Or just go to our homepage and visit their website for any new and old products.

Race started with a trail run/aerial map on the way to Ottawa.  Team Offspring and Rainbow Unicorns were some of the first off that map and into the water.  They were followed by Ya Mule and a great job from team Motto.  Many teams closely followed and a few teams struggled but everyone finally got to the lake.  Then it was onto the laps.  It was a blast watching and I have not laughed that much in a while.  It had a look of NASCAR to it with some teams paddling perfectly and a few teams that had bad steering wheels!   But plenty of laughs for sure.   REM had the best split of 46 minutes and they were followed by great paddling times from Master lock/Albatross , Offspring, Goat Nuts, Mother Jugs Speed and others.

After the paddling , teams ran back to Mackie and jumped on their bikes over to Emma and the Mt. biking trails.   A lot of great splits on the bumpy , rugged trail of Emma. Offspring was first in on the trail but ran  into some bike problems and ended up being passed by teams.    Looks like Elkbones had the best split of 45 minutes !  They were closely followed by Ya Mule, Goat Nuts, Hops and Schnaps and REM. and a few others were right behind those teams.   I have to mention that the all girl team of Headwinds did the trail in a time of 63 minutes which is pretty good for the all girl team.

After the mt.biking, the evil race director had teams split up and take turns finding 4 aerial controls.  This definitely changed the race .  Some teams had more than one person who could navigate and some teams did not, as the results show.  Team Ya Mule had the best split here of 47 minutes to find all 4 controls and team Elkbones was right behind them in 48 min.   They were closely followed by Offspring , and Goat Nuts and a shot out to Operation Sleeping Weasel with a good split here also. Also a shot out to our Lonely Sledgehammer who wanted a workout and did the race solo .  He did all 4 aerial controls without getting a rest and ended up with a solid steady performance.

At this point , a few of the beginner teams were starting to feel the pain and did the best that they could and carried on.  The veteran teams powered their way back on the bikes and to the final Nav. map .  Great road biking times were Goat Nuts , REM,  Elkbones, Rookies, Mud 4 brains, Mother Jugs, Rainbow Unicorns  and Master lock/Albatross.

At TA 4 and the final map, Goat Nuts was first in the woods followed closely by Ya Mule and Elkbones. But it was Ya Mule first out of the woods .  They had a time of 1:48 which was good enough to keep them in first as they took it back home to Mackie but on   the 13 controls it was  Rainbow Unicorns that  just ate the map up in a blazing time of 1:06 !  This is from a team that is not local.  They are from Minn. and  quite a great job on the map.  Team Vyster had the next best split of 1:25 which is great also. There were others that had great splits and a few teams that struggled with the map.

I then had the teams finish up with the Horseshoe toss and some teams got ringers right away and other teams, well, lets just say I got to visit with them for awhile.  I want to Thank all  of you for coming out and watch for results soon.   Andy
