SKMC Fall Race Updates

Update #4 - August 9, 2010

We are very excited to announce that the 2010 SKMC Fall Race is a Checkpoint Tracker event!  This is one of your last opportunities to earn points if your team is attempting to qualify for nationals!!

Your team does not have to sign up for this, however we encourage your team to check it out - it is free!  If your team is interested in earning Checkpoint Tracker points you must go to the Checkpoint tracker website and sign up your team for the SKMC race.  Your team MUST have created a Team Profile and add the Southern Kettle Moraine Race race to your team's schedule to earn Checkpoint Tracker points.  Your team must do this a few weeks before the race to earn points.  Again, your team does not have to do this to race the SKMC, but we encourage teams to check it out.

Update #3 - August 8, 2010

Rental Canoes and Drop Bags

Hello Racers: if your team needs to rent a canoe for the race, we have canoes available from Tip A Canoes out of Burlington, WI.   Just let me know sooner than later if your team needs a canoe and I will make sure your team has access.  One canoe for 2-person teams and 2 canoes for a 4-person teams.  Their cost, not mine, is $45 per canoe.  This includes delivery to the canoe put-in, paddles and pfds.   They will also pick the canoe up for you.  Again, if you want to rent one, let me know sooner than later .  E-mail andy_mac9@msn.com to rent.

If your team is using their own canoe or canoes, you will need a shuttle person to take your canoe or canoes to the boat landing Saturday.  If you find that this is a hardship to find a person to shuttle your canoe for you then you will need to drop your canoe or canoes at the canoe put-in site the morning of the race on Saturday 10-9-10.  Your drop site is the Rice lake canoe landing near the town of Whitewater, WI.  Click here for a link to the KMSF map. The directions to the Rice lake canoe put in from the start of the race are:  From Mackie ( start of race ) take hwy ZZ right or west to hwy 67.  Take hwy 67 left or south to hwy 12 .  Take hwy 12 west or right to hwy H in the town of La Grange .  Take hwy H left or south to Kettle Moraine Drive. Take Kettle Moraine drive right or west to State park rd.  Take State Park rd left or south a short distance and look for the sign to the Rice lake boat landing.  Once there,  leave canoes by Shelter .  I will have signs and RED cones as to where I want your team to leave the canoes near the shelter.  There will also be a long cable to lock your canoe to, until your team gets there.

I would prefer that your team has a shuttle person for those teams that are bringing their own canoes, however if you cannot find a shuttle person, then you may leave the canoe at the above area on Saturday morning.   I will also have directions to the canoe drop site at Mackie the morning of the race but it will take you 1 hour and 20 minutes to make the round trip so you would have to leave Mackie at 5:30 am Saturday to make it back in time for the 7:00 am Mandatory pre-race meeting.   Thank you for working with us with the canoe shuttle!

DROP BAGS
Because we will have a short break Saturday night, half way thru the race, I am allowing teams to bring a drop bag.  Bring your drop bag to the start of the race at your CHECK IN on Saturday morning . CHECK IN time is 5:30 - 6:45 am on Saturday at the start (Mackie).  I will allow 2-person teams to bring ONE 30-gallon garbage bag to put your team's change of clothes and a small amount of food.  There will be water at this point of the race.   4-person teams may bring TWO 30-gallon garbage bags.   Race personnel will transport the drop bags to the half-way point of the race for you.

Update #2 - July 5, 2010

The main information page of the website has also been updated that the race is now 24-hours in length and will begin at 8:00 am on Saturday. Race cutoff will be 8:00 am on Sunday.  Pre-race meeting will begin at 7:00 am on Saturday.  Check back for more soon!

Update #1 - February 16, 2010

Hello Adventure racers.   We are excited to be putting on another overnight race for 2010.   This winter I am currently working on a brand new navigation map for the race.   Plan on plenty of day and night time navigation, along with all the other great disciplines that go with Adventure racing.
I plan on something slightly different for our fall race.   There will be a slight break in the action just before nightfall on Saturday, the 1st day of racing.    So think of it as 2 races put together.  Whatever time your team has for the 1st day, will stand,  then the race will continue on after dark starting the 2nd part of the race.   Your team will have two times, we will combine those two times at the end of the race to determine the winner.    For the leaders, you will end up with more of a break.  For those who are near the back of the pack, you will not receive as much of a break.   However, your total race time, weather you are fast or not so fast, will be yours.
There are numerous reason for trying this.   As the director of the race I can keep the pack from spreading out too far.  Also, racers will get a chance to see where everyone stands during the middle of the race and it allows racers  to mingle.    As all of us know, during the longer races, you never get a chance to see each other during the race.     I will have an open shelter at this area and a warming or changing tent if the weather is cold or rainy.  Teams be allowed to have ONE drop bag for this middle area.   I would suggest having a change of clothes in this drop bag.  Racers will know of this area at the mandatory race meeting just before the race begins.
As a lot of you know,  I like to change things up from time to time and this is something that we will give a try with and see how it goes.    Watch this link for any new updates once we get closer to race date.
Hope to see you at the Fall SKMC!
