SKMC Fall 2016 Race Updates

Racers,  If your team wishes to register, please click the Registration link on your left.   This years race will have plenty of navigation along with plenty of the rest of what Adventure racing has to offer .   If you are new to navigation,   your team will not need to find all the controls to finish the race, however, if you are a experienced team, there will be plenty of navigation to challenge your team.   New teams can practice their navigation skills by checking our links to the left

" What is Adventure Racing ".    Keep an eye on this "Up Date link"  for more info as we approach race date .

 Up Date

Hi all.       The 2016 SKMC will have both road and Mt biking, paddling, some running and navigation.   Race will be somewhere in the 8-10 hour distance.  Meaning that the top racers may be able to clear the course between 8 and 9 hours and the average racer will take a little longer time .   Watch for more up dates .

Up  Date

Hi all.   Registration is open and    I have the course ready and am going over the course to make sure everything is good.   Race will have real single track Mt biking  so be ready for that.   However , its great mt . biking with a mix of easy to thrilling .   Remember just 1 bike per racer.   You have to use the same bike for the mt biking as well as the road biking.   Most racers will use a mt . bike with fast or thinner trail tires.  Distance will be about:

40 miles of total road biking.   7-9 miles of real single track.   About 5-7 miles of paddling and  navigation maps  along with some trekking .

UP  DATE       YOUR CANOE AND RENTALS

Some important info for canoes.    If you are renting, the cost is 30$ a canoe and your team needs to let me know when you register your team.    The canoes are nice, I have paddle them in the past and are of a lightweight royalex plastic design.   Your rental canoe will be waiting for you at the canoe landing with rental paddles and pfds.    The rental company will also pick up the canoe after you are done with it.  If you would like to use your own paddles and pfds, bring them to the race start at Mackie Shelter with your team name on your gear  and we will make sure your gear gets to the canoe landing.

IF YOU ARE BRINGING YOUR OWN CANOES.

If you are bringing your own canoes, please bring a lock and cable because there will be a period when they will be unattended.   Your team will have to drop off and pick up your canoe after the race.   The canoe landing is about a  1/2 hour north of the race start.    So if you are bringing your canoe to the race start, you will need about an hour to drop your canoe and then get back to the race start.  Remember, the race meeting is at 7am.   I will give directions to the canoe drop on this Up Date link the Monday before the race in case your team is coming from that direction.    You can bring your paddles and pfds to the race start and I will bring this gear to the canoe landing.    Thank You for working with us on this.       Andy and the WARS team

Please check Mandatory gear link.  We are asking racers to wear Bright tops so that you are noticed on the road and in the woods.  We are also asking racers to have a red blinking rear bike light for the road.  We are asking racers to have both a lock for your bike and if you are bringing your own canoe,  a lock for your canoe.  Thank you for working with us with this.  We want your gear to be safe!

If your team needs a Mt bike trail pass or WI vehicle state park pass, we will have these at Mackie  Shelter or race start.   The trail pass for Mt biking is 4$ and a vehicle pass is 7$.   Please bring exact change.
