SKMC Fall Race Gear List

Below are the all-time mandatory gear list (these items MUST be carried with you at all times, during all sections during the race) and the section-specific mandatory gear list.

All-Time Mandatory Gear

Cell phone

First aid kit that contains at least 4 band aids, a 3-foot roll of gauze, 4 aspirinsor pain reliever tablets, any form of antiseptic for cuts.   You may include more to this kit.

Writing Utensil per Racer

Section-Specific Mandatory Gear

Paddle Section Gear

1 canoe per team

2 paddles per team, (may be single blade or double)

1 pfd per paddler to be worn while paddling.

Bike Section Gear

1 bike per racer.  A mountain bike or similar is recommended however you may use any bike you choose BUT there will be some single track mountain biking in the race.  No tandem bikes allowed.

Each racer must have and wear a bike helmet during the biking sections

Bikes must have a rear and front light on them. The front light may be a head lamp or helmet light.  The rear light may be one of those inexpensive red flashing lights.

A bright colored clothing top is mandatory for the biking and navigation sections of the race (there are ongoing hunting seasons in the Forest)
Navigation Section Gear
Each team needs at least one compass and I would recommend two

Each team needs a map case.  Maps are not waterproof

NO GPS units allowed

Long pants are recommended for the navigation along with insect repellent

A bright colored clothing top is mandatory for the biking and navigation sections of the race.  Either red, Orange or bright blue for your top for the navigation section . 

Magnifying glass for the smaller details on the map.

Any form of eye protection for the navigation sections
